The ABC’s of 2.4 and 5 GHz Wireless LANs

چکیده
mobility and portability with high-bandwidth data, voice, and video access. This has led to the introduction of wireless LAN technologies, which attempt to provide exactly that. In the 2.4 GHz frequency band, IEEE 802.11b is “the” wireless LAN solution in the market. However the 5 GHz frequency has two possible contending technologies — IEEE 802.11a and HiperLAN2. This white paper explains the state of affairs in the wireless LAN market, the underlying technology behind the different types of wireless LANs, the over-utilized 2.4 GHz spectrum, the migration to 5 GHz band, which technology will succeed, and how Xilinx Spartan-II FPGAs are ideal for this market place. White Paper: Spartan-II

Net throughput with IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs
The throughput for IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs has been evaluated with respect to various kinds of overhead. The impact of several sources of overhead has been modeled. Sources include gap time, preamble, PHY (physical layer), MAC (medium access layer) and TCPRP header fields, ACK (acknowledgement) and request frames. After measurement of the net throughput and detailed monitoring of actual excha...
متن کاملEFR: A Retransmit Scheme for TCP in Wireless LANs
In this paper, we propose a new, e cient, fast retransmission scheme for wireless LANs. Wireless LANs are becoming popular and providing an e cient protocol over a wireless link is important. In our experiments with 2.4 GHz WaveLAN, the poor TCP performance observed was attributed to frequent expiration of the retransmission timer. To avoid unnecessary expiration of the retransmission timer, we...

متن کاملA 0.7 V Transformer-feedback CMOS Low-noise Amplifier for 5-GHz Wireless LAN
In this paper, we present a 0.7 V low-noise amplifier(LNA) using monolithic transformer feedback to neutralize the gate-drain overlap capacitance of a field-effect transistor(FET). It is a single-ended amplifier implemented in 0.18-μm CMOS technology designing for 5-GHz wireless local-area networks (LANs). This LNA achieves a simulated power gain of 10.84 dB, noise figure(NF) of 2.4 dB, and inp...
متن کاملInvestigating The Effects of Modem Electromagnetic Waves (2.4 GHz) on Electroencephalogram
With respect to the dramatic increasing use of electronically communicators and wireless modems, concerns have been raised about the possible effects of emitted electromagnetic radiation on human brain. In this paper, the effects of high-frequency wireless modem waves on the brain signal are investigated. To this end, the Electroencephalograph (EEG) recording of 15 volunteers is examined in fou...
